I just received an email that I have been selected for an ad campaign; what do I need to do?

  • The email that we sent to you is just a notification to inform you that you have been selected for an advertisement campaign. All you need to do is to ensure that our Nuffnang codes in placed in prominent locations on your blog and wait for the campaign to run on the date stated in the email. If your blog has a bad ad placement as is found to drive a very low CTR, advertisers may withdraw the ad from your blog.

I am running an ad campaign on my blog, but have no earnings.

  • Firstly, do check your email if you receive any notification about incoming CPM advertisements, or check your Buffered Earnings under Earnings if you have any new mCPM campaign running for that particular ad unit. If you have, the campaign is running and the earnings will only be credited when it ends.
  • If there are no email notifications or any new mCPM campaigns in your Earnings section, then the ad that you saw is a CPC campaign.
  • CPC campaign - Launched on advertisers' request. Will show on all blogs under Nuffnang network which have 'Show Global CPC Ads' selected under their Blog Preferences in Blog Manager which are not serving any CPM campaigns at the moment it is launched. Pay bloggers based on the number of unique clicks by their blog's unique visitors on the ad unit which is displaying the CPC ad. Will cease once it reaches its maximum clicks and update all bloggers' account whose blogs generated genuine clicks during the campaign. If a blog showed the CPC ad but did not generate any clicks towards the campaign, no earnings will be updated.

I have not been able to paste the Nuffnang codes into my Wordpress/Xanga/Multiply/Livejournal blog.

  • Free versions of Wordpress.com do not allow the use of Javascripts nor the editing of their template's HTML. However, hosting your blog by using Wordpress.org's files on your own domain will allow you to do so if you are able to set the file permission settings through your FTP.
  • At the moment, Xanga Themes does not support the use of javascript as it prevents the "< script >" tag to be inserted when placing a HTML code into their widgets. Only the old "Look & Feel" page allows the user to insert javascript. You may find the Xanga support forum thread about this here
    http://help.xanga.com/themes/Default.aspx?g=posts&m=6375
  • Multiply and Livejournal do not allow 3rd party advertisements nor the editing of their blog HTML. From our knowledge so far, the blogs that allow you to do this are blogger platforms such as www.blogger.com, the old ‘look and feel’ version of Xanga, full paid versions of Wordpress, Tabulas.com and Diaryland.com.

I have joined Nuffnang for quite some time but have no earnings

  • Bloggers get paid when they serve paid ads from our advertisers.
  • There are 2 types of general paid ads from our advertisers, CPC (Cost Per Click) Campaigns and CPM (Cost Per Impression) Campaigns. The MCPM (Metered CPM) is a branch of CPM campaigns.
  • CPC Campaigns
Launched on advertisers' request. It will show on all blogs under Nuffnang network which have 'Show Global CPC Ads' selected under their Blog Preferences in Blog Manager. CPC Campaigns will only be shown on blogs which are not serving any CPM campaigns at the moment. Bloggers are payed based on the number of unique clicks by their blog's unique visitors. A CPC Campaign will ceased once it reaches its maximum clicks and commences update to all bloggers' account whose blogs generated genuine clicks during the campaign. If a blog has served the CPC Campaign ads but did not generate any clicks towards the campaign, no earnings will be updated to the blog owner's account.
  • CPM Campaigns
Our Advertisers will choose which blogs they want to advertise on as they pay much higher compared to CPC-type campaign. Their decisions may rely on several factors such as the demographics of your blog readers, the desirability of ad units, membership exclusivity and the availability of ad units. If you're chosen for one, you'll either receive an email notification regarding the campaign or find it in your "Buffered Earnings" section under the "Earnings" page.
    • As the Advertisers always have a target audience for their campaigns to address to, they will choose blogs with suitable blog readers as their target audience. Should your blog readers fall into that category, rest assure that you're very likely to be picked by them.
    • Desirability of ad placement is crucial in the advertising industry. Our Advertisers have spent a lot of money to design an ad and buy ad space. They want to get their message across to their target audience as effectively as they could. This being said, they will always buy ad spaces which are optimized and desirably placed. Just ensure that your ad units are at their intended place and this factor would be satisfied in the eyes of the advertisers. A Skyscraper ad unit is supposed to be the first element of the sidebar and not anywhere else. The same goes for Leaderboard as the first visible element upon visitor's entry to the site and Large Rectangle right after your first blog post. Should your blog's ad units are not located at these placements, it would severely affect the Advertisers' decision to choose your blog and they might choose other blogs under our network instead with a more subtle ad placement.
    • In addition, availability of ad units play important role for our Bloggers to be chosen for campaigns as well. All our Advertisers split their budget evenly across all our 3 ad units, Leaderboard, Skyscraper and Large Rectangle whenever they advertise with us. That being said, the budget would be limited and might not be able to cover that many blogs for a particular ad unit. If your blog have all 3 ad units in it, your chances of being selected for campaigns would be fully maximized.
    • Membership exclusivity plays a part in advertisement campaigns as our Advertisers tend to advertise more on Glitterati blogs as it is part of our reward program to our most loyal Bloggers in the region. Ordinary members will still be selected for campaigns but in a lower number compared to Glitterati's.

Do I get paid in RM or USD?

  • You will get paid in RM. This reduces the trouble of you having to bank-in USD cheques and wait for weeks before you eventually get your money. It also means that the bank won't have to take a further commission on your ad payments since there is no foreign currency involved.

Will Nuffnang Ads and Google AdSense work together?

  • Nuffnang Ads do not look like Google Ads, are not contextual and is not formatted in any way to look like Google Ads or search boxes so you should not have a problem with putting on Nuffnang Ads on the same page as Google Adsense. Do refer to the Google Adsense Program Policies for further details.

How do I remove/add Nuffnang Ads from my blog?

Removing ads:
  • You can’t. Once you join us you’re with us forever! Ok we’re just kidding.
  • Just remove the ads from your blog but before you do so, please notify us first at http://www.nuffnang.com.my/help just in case we may have some advertisements due for display on that particular ad unit.
  • Tell us which ad unit on which blog you are planning to remove and give us 48 hours to respond to your e-mail.
  • Once you have removed your Nuffnang ad unit codes from your blog, please remove the blog's address from Blog Manager as well. This is very important to ensure that our system no longer tracks the blog which may affect your Glitterati status.
Adding Nuffnang ad unit:
  • Step 1: Go to the “Blog Manager” page to register your new blog.
  • Step 2: Go to the “Add Ads” page, choose the ad unit(s) you wished to place in your new blog and add in the respective ad unit's code into your blog template.

How do I change the URL of my blog?

  • Login to your account and head to the Blog Manager page.
  • Under your list of registered blog(s), click on the “Edit? link beside it and you shall be redirected to the Edit Blog page. Type in your new blog address and you may also optionally provide us a reason for the update.
  • Click on the "Save" button and we’ll do the rest!

My Statcounter is not counting! Help!

  • First thing you need to do is to check whether you have placed the code correctly. Please refer to the dedicated tutorial within the “Add Ads” page for guidance.
Useful tip: Default ads should be visible on your Blog if your code has been placed correctly.
  • If there is no problem with your ad unit's code placement, please ensure that your registered blog URL is correct. You may go to your Blog Manager page to refer to your list of registered blogs.
  • If all is well, and your stats still do not count, kindly contact us via our Help Desk support and our team member will respond to you as soon as possible.

How do I place the code?

  • You may refer to our dedicated tutorial (Which you can find in the “Add Ads” page within the CMS) for advice on how to place the code. Do not fret!
  • If any doubts remain, do not hesitate to contact us through our Help Desk support!

What does the code do?

  • It allows us to serve on a REAL TIME basis, advertisements onto your Blog.
  • It allows us and yourself to track vital visitor statistics of your Blog.
  • We have a very strict privacy policy which ensures your privacy is maintained as far as reasonably possible.

How do I get my money out into my a/c?

  • As soon as you have earned RM 50, you will be given an option on your earnings page to cash out!
  • Nuffnang pays its Glitterati bloggers 30 days after their cash out request date every end of the month (60 days for Ordinary). Upon that, the cheque will be sent to the bank for processing and mailed to your registered address. The processing and delivery from the bank's side will take no longer than 3 weeks.
  • To minimize wait time to receive your cheques, cashing out at the end of the month would be wise.
  • Note: Do ensure that mailing address and payee name provided in the registration form is accurate.

What do the different types of Ads Preference mean and do?

  • Ads Preference refers to how will you want your Nuffnang ad units to look like before you're assigned a paid campaign by our advertisers. There are a few options such as Minimize Ads, Show Charity Ads, Show Default Ads, Show Global CPC Ads.
  • Minimize Ads will minimize your ad units to only show a Nuffnang logo or caption to reduce load time in your blog and our server while waiting for paid campaigns.
  • Show Charity Ads will enable your ad unit to show non paying ads that seek to promote various humanitarian causes such as adopt a puppy, blood donation or any community project that Nuffnang is working on for that period of time.
  • Show Default Ads will enable your ad units to show non paying ads that seek to promote the awareness of Nuffnang as the first Asia Pacific's blog advertising community.
  • Show Global CPC Ads will enable your ad units to show CPC ads for CPC campaigns that is running by our advertisers' request. This will enable you to earn while waiting for CPM campaigns by our advertisers. If there are not CPC campaigns ongoing for a particular ad unit, it will be minimized to reduce load time of your blog and our server.

When do the ads start running?

  • Our marketing team is always out on the ground scouring for related advertisers. We are interested not only in making you money but finding you the best match possible!
  • Before your blog is assigned any CPM ads from advertisers, it will show non paying ads or to minimize ad unit which you've selected as your Ads Preference in your Blog Manager with the exception of Show Global CPC Ads where you get paid for the number of clicks by your visitors.

How much do I earn?

For CPM campaigns

  • What you earn depends on the number of Average Unique visitors you received in the week that the ad campaign is built.
  • You will then be arranged into specific “Blogger bands” that directly correspond to your number of Average Unique visitors.
  • For each campaign, you will be paid a fixed amount for every ad unit. The amount depends on what your Blogger band is. The higher your Blogger band (i.e. more unique visitors), the higher your earnings.
  • All information on your blogger band and your earnings can be viewed within your CMS Earnings Page. All information will be updated within 3 working days after the ad campaign is completed.

For CPC campaigns

  • You earn by the number of unique clicks generated by your unique visitors on the ad unit that is running the CPC campaign.
  • Your earnings will be credited 3 days after the CPC campaign ends. A CPC campaign ends when it reaches its maximum number of clicks.
  • Should your blog display a CPC ad but not generate any clicks on the ad unit, no earnings will be accumulated and updated.

For MCPM (Metered CPM) campaigns

  • Advertisers buy a set of unique visitors from your blog that will be able to see their ads on your blog for a certain number of weeks.
  • The earnings for your mCPM campaign will be held in Buffered Earnings while the campaign is running till your blog finish serving the number of uniques the advertisers bought from your blog. Once your blog finish serving the number of uniques, the earnings will be credited to your Current Earnings.

What advantages do you offer ME, the blogger?

  • Firstly, there are the monetary gains! We’ll do all the groundwork looking for advertisers and link you in with them. Once an ad is served on your blog, you start making income!
  • It is our sincere belief that Blogs should be credible and rich sources of information. Correspondingly, we will do our utmost best to ensure the ads served on your Blog match your content and readership as closely as possible. What this means is that your readers will be up to speed with the best deals in the market place!
  • We are also seeking affiliations with strategic partners like web hosting companies to bring you additional benefits. Stay tuned!
  • Nuffnang.com.my has a dedicated “Featured Blogger” column, which will throw the spotlight on a number of Bloggers every month. Will the spotlight be on you next?
  • Nuffnang as the first Asia Pacific's blog advertising community always organize fun and exciting events for our bloggers to attend and most of the time, it is entirely free of charge!

Why You Should Join The Nuffnang Glitterati

1) Payment Rates for both Cost Per Unique Visitor and Cost-Per-Click.
The less ads a blogger has on his blog, the higher share of voice and the less each ad will have to compete with other ads for attention. Hence, the higher the CTR and the higher the value of that particular ad space on the blog.

That is why for example you will never see 8 different ads on the same page on a newspaper unless it’s in the Classifieds where each advertiser pays a small amount. As a result of that, Glitterati Nuffnangers will earn 20-40% more than ordinary Nuffnangers.

2) Payment Terms
In the advertising industry just like in many industries, payment from advertisers come from specific terms like 60 or 90 days. In the past, Nuffnang has used its cash reserves to pay off bloggers for campaigns that we still have not been paid for by our clients. Due to the great increase of bloggers in the Nuffnang community, we are no longer able to provide this service for all our Nuffnangers and unfortunately will have to restrict this service to Nuffnang Glitterati members.
However, all Nuffnangers will still be paid in a timely manner as stipulated in the Program Table.

3) Advertorial Opportunities
Many bloggers know that while banner ad campaigns earn a decent stable income, it is advertorials that pay the most. Each advertorial depending on the advertiser, commitment and traffic can earn a blogger a substantial amount not including freebies that may sometimes be included.
In the past, advertorial opportunities were available for all our Nuffnangers. However, due to the high demand for advertorials and the need for us to narrow down which blogger of the thousands will get advertorials, only exclusive bloggers will now be eligible for advertorials.

4) Community Events
Nuffnang is known to organize the biggest community events ever which range from free movie screenings, lunch meet ups and many more. We find that in many of these events, many Nuffnangers would like to bring guests along with them and we at Nuffnang would like to oblige as much as we can.
As such, 70% of the seats for each event will be allocated to Nuffnang Glitterati AND the guests they may bring.

5) Contests
Contests among Nuffnangers have been something we’ve been having quite a lot with many bloggers winning everything from free meals at Friday’s to mobile phones or even the upcoming contest of a free trip to Gold Coast. With the high demand for these contests, we will give priority to Nuffnang Glitterati with 70% of the prizes to be allocated to them and the remaining 30% to be allocated to non-Nuffnang Glitterati.

6) Innit
Innit is a tool developed and hosted by Nuffnang to add the additional service of driving traffic to any Nuffnang blog. This tool will now only be restricted to Nuffnang Glitterati since it is within our best interest of our community not to indirectly drive any traffic to a future competing network.
The vast majority of the Nuffnang Community is already eligible for the exclusive program so there isn’t much to worry about. All of us at Nuffnang sincerely hope that this new initiative will show how much we do appreciate your loyalty.

Terms and Conditions:

* The Loyalty Program is open to exclusive Nuffnang bloggers where "exclusive" is defined as not having any advertisement unit being placed on the user’s blog that originates from South East Asia ad network, or any other ad network that Nuffnang deemed as a direct competitor.
* Loyalty Program membership cannot be backdated to allow for benefits to be earned prior to joining the program.
* Glitterati status may be lost if for any reason we are unable to detect a Nuffnang ad on any of your registered blogs (e.g. if your blog is taken private, has been suspended, or your blog server suffers a prolonged failure), or any blog does not receive any traffic for an extended period of time.
* Any users found to intentionally defraud the system by manipulating the rules to be included in the Loyalty Program will be banned for an indefinite period of time.
* Nuffnang reserves the right to restrict or ban any users from the Loyalty Program without reason or cause.
* Nuffnang reserves the right to alter the Terms and Conditions.

How do I apply for the Nuffnang Glitterati club?

You do not need to apply, and will be automatically included as a Nuffnang Glitterati as long as you do NOT have any advertisements from, mentions of, or links to other ad networks originating from SEA, or any other ad networks we deem a competitors on your blog. Our crawlers will automatically include your blog in the club within 4 days.
Note that if an advertisement from, or a link to a competing network is placed on your blog at any time, our crawlers will detect it within 4 days and you will automatically be removed from the club.

What is an “Exclusive Nuffnanger”??

An “Exclusive Nuffnanger” is a Nuffnang blogger who has NO advertisements from, mentions of, or links to other ad networks originating from SEA, or any ad networks we deem as competitors on his/her blog.

DO'S AND DON'TS

Lastly, a few do's and don'ts to help you out and make blogging more fun than ever:

    Do :

  • Get updates via the Nuffnang blog, Facebook and Twitter! We have lots of contests, movie screenings and awesome promotions exclusively for Nuffnangers and we throw great parties too, so keep your eyes peeled for announcements there.
  • Be a part of Innit, Nuffnang's very own blog aggregator! Innit is available to all Glitterati Nuffnangers, and there you can share topics you find interesting with your fellow Nuffnangers, and read interesting articles from them as well. It's a great place to make friends! :)

    Don't :

  • There's really only one big "don't" when it comes to Nuffnang, and that would be to commit click fraud. Click fraud is defined as manipulating the number of clicks on ads, e.g. by clicking repeatedly on them, resetting your IP, or encouraging others to do so. While you're more than welcome to click on your own ads if you're genuinely interested in the products/services offered, manipulating your click count is a breach of Nuffnang's terms of service.
  • Bloggers who commit click fraud will have their earnings revoked, or even banned for repeat offenders. This is how we feel when we see click fraud occurring - :( :( :( We're not happy when we have to ban bloggers or revoke their earnings because of click fraud, so play nice, okay?

That's all from us about getting started with Nuffnang! If you have any questions, you can always drop us a message via our helpdesk – we always answer all your questions within 48 hours except on weekends and public holidays.

When do I start earning from the ads on my blog?

Bloggers earn when they serve paid ads from our advertisers. There are generally 2 types of paid ads: CPC (Cost Per Click) and mCPM (Metered Cost Per Impression).
CPC ads show on all blogs on the Nuffnang network which have "Show Global CPC Ads" selected under their Blog Preferences in the Blog Manager, and are not currently serving any mCPM ads. Payment is based on the number of unique clicks on the CPC ad.
mCPM (Metered Cost Per Impression) campaigns are when your blog is selected for a banner campaign. See below for how you can get selected for these campaigns. No clicks are required to earn from mCPM ads, however having high CTR (click through ratio) may grant you bonus earnings.

If you wish to earn from CPC ads while waiting for mCPM ads to be assigned to your blog, make sure you have "Show Global CPC Ads" chosen for your Ads Preference in the Blog Manager!

Getting Started Image

Once you've accumulated more than RM 50, you can cash out your earnings, and we will send you a cheque.
For more information about CPC and mCPM ads, please read the full FAQ here, or write in to our helpdesk here.

How do I get selected for ad campaigns?
There are a few factors considered when deciding ad assignments:
  1. Demographics of blog readers
Keep your blog surveys up-to-date, as they determine how your blog is targeted for advertisers.
  2. Desirability of ad placement
Advertisers spend a lot of money on banners, and prefer to have their ads in prominent locations.

    • A Skyscraper ad unit is supposed to be the first element of the sidebar and not anywhere else.
    • The Leaderboard should be the first element a visitor sees, and
    • The Large Rectangle should come right after your first blog post.
Should your blog's ad units not be located at these optimal placements, it could severely affect the number of advertisers who choose your blog.
  3. Availability of ad units
Advertisers split their budget evenly across our three ad units. If your blog serves all three, you'll increase your chances of getting campaigns.
  4. Membership exclusivity
Advertisers tend to advertise more on Glitterati Nuffnangers' blogs as part of our reward program for our most loyal bloggers. Ordinary members still receive campaigns but in lower numbers.
  5. Period of membership
It takes about 30 days for our system to monitor your traffic for consistency before we can propose your blog for any campaigns. Please be patient, you'll soon receive ad campaigns if all your ad spaces are optimized.

I've submitted a cashout request! When will my cheque arrive?

As stated in our payment policy, Nuffnang processes cashout requests for Glitterati members 30 days after every end of the month from their cashout request date (60 days for Ordinary members). Cheques will be compiled and sent to the bank for processing before delivery to your registered address. The processing takes an additional two weeks. If you were a Glitterati member and cashed out any day in August, your cheque would be processed at the end of September and should reach you by the second week of October.
If you do not receive your cheque within the time frame mentioned, kindly write in to our helpdesk.

We know you probably have a few more questions in mind; why don't you head over to our FAQ section for more information?

Nuffnang Logo

Nuffnang’s revamped logo was officially unveiled at our first Singaporean Community event, on 9th August 2007. Retaining the key elements of our previous logo, the familiar stickman remains the center of focus. With his figure arched back, and his hands to his mouth (an effort to amplify his speech), the stickman is proclaiming something out loud. A new facet of the design sees the stickman shouting "Out of the box". This has dual significance and represents the activities of both the blogger and the advertiser.

What the Nang does Nuffnang mean?

"Nuff Nang" is a Jafaikan word that means "Real Good or Real Cool." No, not Jamaican, Jafaikan! Jafaikan is the word on the streets of young London. If you've been hanging out with the likes of wanna be gangsta Ali - G,(Sasha Baron-Cohen) you would have heard this one before. We could go all academic and give you an analysis on where this came from, but instead check this out. You'll get the idea.

Nurturing growth

Months of planning went into Nuffnang.comAnd on the business plan, a modest target of 300 bloggers within 3 months had been set.Even with those targets, there were skeptics, not least the two initiators. Nuffnang.com.my was launched on 27th Feb 2007 and within the first 3 days, had signed up 300 bloggers. Nuffnang.com.sg was to follow suit 2 months later on the 30th of April. As from July 2009, there are over 80,000 bloggers in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia and Nuffnang has received publicity from all corners, having been featured on mainstream newspapers like The Star Malaysia, and The Straits Times Singapore.Thousands of bloggers have been served ads by numerous bluechip companies, such as Nike, Citibank, Nokia, F&N, Disney Pictures, Honda, Samsung, Proctor and Gamble and many more.
More importantly, the community in Nuffnang has flourished, and it has truly become a focal point for bloggers in Asia Pacific. Our bloggers call themselves Nuffnangers, an organic development that we are proudest of the best is yet to be.

What tree?

The decision was made to start a business, but what business?Timothy then, had a deep rooted passion in the recent phenomenon of blogging. Having gathered an admirable following of readers with a blog he started with a friend, he lamented over how there was a dearth of relevant and lucrative advertising dollars.
Asia would soon have it's very own blog advertising community.

A Tiny Seed is planted

In late may of 2006, 2 university students, Timothy Tiah and Cheo Ming Shen sat having a bento box lunch in London.Exams were looming, but as with all the conversations between these two greenhorns, the topic was enterprise. Having both experienced entrepeneurship during their student years, they were like over eager bunnies, ready to unleash their ideas on their home markets of Malaysia and Singapore.
It was in this cosy restaurant that the seeds of Nuffnang.com were planted.
